    Dear DHS Warriors,

We hope this email finds all of you healthy and safe during these times. We wanted to send a notice out explaining our 2nd Semester School Day tests - both the optional and mandatory exams. Please note that information may change based on statewide, lake county, or local mandates and guidelines.

On January 26, 2021, juniors have the opportunity to take the optional Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). This free test is available to any juniors and is the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Juniors who score very well enter this National Merit Scholarship competition.

Junior students who wish to take this exam must register by completing the PSAT/NMSQT Registration Form Please complete this form by December 3, 5:00 p.m.

Health and Safety Measures: The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority.  To maintain a safe testing environment, we will employ our current health and safety protocols and procedures. All staff and students must pass a health screening before entering the building, properly wear face coverings, and maintain social distancing in all building areas, including the halls and classrooms. Please be aware that should we remain in Tier 3 mitigation with no services on campus, we may not be able to administer this exam. We will notify all registered students and their parents/guardians as soon as possible if we cannot administer the exam.

SAT, PSATs & ISA (Illinois Science Assessment):

In late April 2021, we will administer the mandatory School Day SAT exams and the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA). The Illinois State Board of Education requires these exams for all students. Students will take the following exam(s) per their grade level:

    • Freshmen - PSAT 8/9
    • Sophomores - PSAT 10
    • Juniors - SAT & Illinois Science Assessment
    • Seniors - SAT (if not taken in September or October)
      • Please note, the School Day SAT is a graduation requirement and must be taken by all Juniors and Seniors before graduating. A weekend SAT does not count for the graduation requirement.

The SAT will be administered on April 13, PSAT between April 13-23, and ISA during April. More specific details will be shared closer to the examination dates. Students and parents/guardians DO NOT need to register for these tests. Rather, all students will be registered by the school.

During the weeks of May 3, 2021 and May 10, 2021, the DHS will administer AP exams. Students in AP classes have already received information about these exams and have completed the registration process. Currently, the College Board plans on administering these exams in-person. More information on AP exams will be shared during 2nd semester.

    Past Correspondence:

A letter was recently sent to senior students and families explaining the options for senior students to satisfy the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) testing graduation requirement.  All class of 2021 students must take a school based SAT with Essay on one of the following dates: September 23, October 14, or April 13.  A weekend SAT will not satisfy the ISBE graduation requirement.  A Google Form linked within the letter allows students to choose their date.  Students will be notified of their date soon.
