The object of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, is to stimulate interest in the study of Spanish, to promote higher standards of scholarship, to reward high scholastic achievement, to create enthusiasm for an understanding of Hispanic culture and civilization, and to promote and perpetuate international friendship.

Juniors and seniors with outstanding achievement in Spanish qualify for admission. At the Induction Ceremony in January, students showcase their talents in Spanish by singing, dancing, playing an instrument, reciting poetry or acting in skits. Students may also participate in other ways during the ceremony including, for example, charity drives.
