Deerfield Pick up 2 Victories at GBS

The Deerfield Warriors traveled to Glenbrook South to compete in our 2nd of 2 CSL Quad meets.  This week the competition was against Maine South, Glenbrook South, and Glenbrook North.

The varsity race unfolded eerily similar to last week's Quad meet.  A couple front runners from other schools established themselves early, then a pack from GBN and Maine South formed in front of the Warriors.  Focusing on a conservative start, it wasn't long before DHS started moving up.  With Olivia mixed in with a pack of Hawks from Maine South, shortly after the mile mark freshman Audrey signaled to the team it was time to go.  As she separated from competitors, fellow freshmen Stella and Maddie went with along with junior Randi.  Mira and Azalea were less than 10 seconds behind and acted in similar fashion.  It soon became apparent, the red and gray pack was going to be too much for GBN and GBS.  It's a sight to see - like a herd of deer in a field - when the Warriors begin to make their move.  It's graceful, gradual, and effective and is the core strength of this team.  In the end, Deerfield scored decisive victories over the Spartans and Titans but were not strong enough to overcome Maine South which is ranked 23rd in the state.

The 2-mile race featured many PR's as this group keeps getting stronger every week.  Riley led the way with a negative split.  Haylie was next for the Warriors smashing through the 16:00 barrier, finishing in15:42.  PR's were also obtained by Meimei (5 seconds), Danielle (30 seconds), Lexi (19 seconds), and Lily (18 seconds).
