Deerfield Begins CSL South Competition

A big discussion around DHS Athletics this year has been the move to the CSL South.  Historically, the CSL has been a 12-team conference split into 2 divisions based on school size.  Recently, AD's voted to realign the conference every two years based on two factors:  school size and success factor.  The Warriors have been winning many championships across all sports in the CSL North, so even though we are the smallest of the 12 schools, we were moved to the South.

Tonight's Quad meet was at GBN and also featured Evanston and New Trier.  You could say it's a "soft" introduction to the CSL South because the results do not count towards the conference standings.  If they had, we would be 1-2 as we came out on top of GBN but behind New Trier and Evanston.

The focus of the meet was to run on pace early and try to pull off negative splits, in other words run a cross country race the way it's supposed to be done.  The girls in the JV race set a great example as they hit their first splits perfectly.  Haylie led the team with a PR performance of 1:26 and almost breaking 16 minutes for 2 miles.  Meimei, Lexi, Cami, and Lily also set PR's.

In the varsity race, the Warriors were able to find themselves early, pack up, and keep pushing each other.  Coming off a huge meet on a fast course over the weekend, it is not easy to turn around in 3 days and race again.  However, we still had 5 PR's including Deerfield's #1 Olivia.  Mira was next in, setting the example of how to move up throughout race; moving from our 10th runner in the first 400 all the way up to our 2nd runner in.  Our 3 - 7 featured 4 freshmen and a sophomore all coming in within 12 seconds of each other.  That is becoming the norm with this group and it is very exciting!

Other PR's in this race included Brooke, Jessica, and Isabelle.  Deerfield races again next Tuesday at GBS.
