About the superintendent
District 113 is honored to welcome Dr. Benjamin Martindale and Dr. Linda Yonke who will share the Superintendent of Schools responsibilities effective July 2, 2018.
Dr. Ben Martindale brings nearly five decades of experience in the field of education. Dr. Martindale retired in 2017 from North Chicago CUSD 187, where he spent five years as Chief Education Officer. His superintendent career spans nearly two decades, with tenures at Gurnee School District 56, Round Lake Area Schools CUSD 116, and Lake Bluff Elementary School District 65. Dr. Martindale has also served as an assistant superintendent, Regional Supervisor of Instructional Services for the Special Education District of Lake County, and teacher. His wealth of experience and demonstrated success working collaboratively with all stakeholder groups will be of great benefit to District 113 during this transition year.
Dr. Linda Yonke worked for 41 years in public education, retiring in 2017 from New Trier Township High School District 203 where she spent eleven years as Superintendent and two years as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. During her tenure at New Trier, Dr. Yonke focused on a number of initiatives, including implementation of a strategic plan, articulation with sender districts, revision of the teacher supervision process, expansion of equity/diversity initiatives, and completion of significant capital improvements on both campuses. Dr. Yonke began her career as a high school English teacher and served extensively in high school administration, including twelve years as a high school principal. Bringing administrative experience at both the building and district level in a variety of diverse and high-achieving schools, Dr. Yonke is eager to become acquainted with this unique community and is committed to focusing on the needs of all District 113 students.
