Bios

  • Dr. Marc Brackett
    Marc Brackett, Ph.D., is the founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and a professor in the Child Study Center at Yale University. His research focuses on the role of emotional intelligence in learning, decision making, creativity, relationships, health, and performance. Marc is the lead developer of RULER, an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that has been adopted by over 4,500 schools, reaching over 4M children across the United States and in 27 other countries. He also is the co-founder of OjiLifeLab, a digital emotional intelligence learning system for businesses. Most recently, with Pinterest co-founder Ben Silbermann, Marc and his team co-created HowWeFeel, a free app designed to teach emotion skills and enhance well-being. Marc also is the author of the bestselling book, Permission to Feel, which has been translated into 22 languages.

     

    Karen Niemi
    Karen Niemi is a serial CEO of social impact and education enterprises. She has dedicated her career to supporting healthy development of children and youth in business and nonprofit organizations. She is currently serving as the executive strategic consultant for the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence where she is leveraging her pedagogical expertise and business background to help scale the power of emotional intelligence. She has served as an advisor to school systems and superintendents in the largest school districts in the nation, helping them to understand and implement social and emotional learning policies, programs and practices. She is the past President and CEO for the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) http://www.casel.org/ where she established social and emotional learning as the most promising school reform effort in decades.
