COURSE OUTLINE: PERSONAL ESSAYS/INTERPRETER OF MALADIES

STUDENTS EXPLORE THEIR OWN WRITING VOICE AND TO WRITE SHORT PERSONAL ESSAYS WHILE READING A VARIETY OF EXAMPLES. WE REVIEW BASIC WRITING STRUCTURES AND FORMS, GRAMMAR, USAGE CONVENTIONS, AND LITERARY ANALYSIS SKILLS.  THE ESSAYS WE WRITE COULD BECOME COLLEGE APPLICATION OR SCHOLARSHIP ESSAYS.

INterp OUR FIRST LITERARY UNIT FOCUSES ON JHUMPA LAHIRI'S COLLECTION INTERPRETER OF MALADIES. WE WILL LOOK AT THE IDEAS OF GENRE, VOICE AND CHARACTER WHILE REVIEWING THE LITERARY ANALYSIS SKILLS THAT STUDENTS HAVE DEVELOPED OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS. WE WILL FOCUS ON BECOMING MORE CRITICAL AND ANALYTIC READERS BY PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE WAY THE AUTHOR HAS CRAFTED THE STORY.
