School Security Survey Update | Currently Underway: Resending of Unique Links by Text to Those Who Did Not Submit a Response by 5/21

Dear D113 Parents/Guardians, Students and Staff, 

As stated in my May 20 email announcing the extension of the deadline and resending of unique survey links by text from the research firm to those who have not yet responded:

• To allow as many people as possible to take the survey on school security, the deadline has been extended to 11:59 p.m., Sunday, May 28
• Each unique survey link will be resent by text to those who have not yet submitted a response to the survey, that includes people who may have started the survey but did not fully complete it
• If you have not yet received a link in a text message, you may need to check the setting on your phone to ensure you are not filtering texts from contacts not in your contact list, for information on how to do that, please see my May 20 email

As follow up, here is some additional information:

• D113 does not create the unique links nor can D113 send the unique links, only the research firm has the links and sends them
• A unique link will also be resent to those who may have started the survey but did not complete it, such as those who may have answered no to the legally required question that they were in a safe place to take the survey and the survey closed--please do not take survey while driving or in a similar unsafe situation
• Resending unique links by text is underway but will take some time because of the manual process required by FCC regulations–-not everyone will receive their unique link today 
• The text will come from a (773) number
• The text will say: “Hello, it's Research-Polls. Click the link to take the D113 survey on school security” followed by a unique link
• That link connects to the survey optimized for mobile devices - if you prefer not to take it on your phone, you can take it on a tablet or you can copy the link to your laptop or computer–regardless of the device on which you take the survey, you can only submit the survey once
• We will announce when all survey links have been resent to those who did not submit responses by May 21 so that we can follow up with anyone who did not receive their unique link

I know some have asked questions as to why the survey has a unique link for each recipient and why the survey was distributed by text. The research firm cannot conduct a phone poll because of the small population size for those asked to participate in the survey. That group is made up of parents/guardians of students currently enrolled in grades 9-12 or our daycares/preschools, parents/guardians of students entering grade 9 in fall 2023, students currently in grades 9-12, and staff. 

In these situations, the research firm prefers to use text to solicit responses that yield a more representative survey. To that end, deploying unique links by text enabled the research firm to contact more parents/guardians as individuals rather than as families or households. We also know from previous surveys that we have parents/guardians who have been historically underrepresented in responses to surveys distributed by email. D113 also has employee groups that do not regularly access email or do not have regular access to a computer, making their level of engagement with text much higher than that of email. Finally, our current students in grades 9-12 use text messaging far more frequently than email and are more likely to respond in greater numbers to text.

Con ese fin, la implementación de enlaces únicos por texto permitió a la firma de investigación contactar a más padres/tutores como individuos en lugar de familias u hogares. También sabemos por encuestas anteriores que tenemos padres/tutores que históricamente han estado subrepresentados en las respuestas a las encuestas distribuidas por correo electrónico. D113 también tiene grupos de empleados que no acceden regularmente al correo electrónico o no tienen acceso regular a una computadora, lo que hace que su nivel de compromiso con el texto sea mucho más alto que el del correo electrónico. Finalmente, nuestros estudiantes actuales en los grados 9-12 usan mensajes de texto con mucha más frecuencia que el correo electrónico y es más probable que respondan en mayor número a los mensajes de texto.
