Update on SHIELD Testing and Extracurriculars | Actualización sobre las pruebas de SHIELD y actividades extracurriculares

January 5, 2022

Dear District 113 Community,               Para español por favor haga clic aquí

To follow up from yesterday’s email from Dr. Law, we completed 1,128 SHIELD tests on Monday, of those 74 were positive, and all positive cases have been notified.

Reminder: Regardless of vaccination status, students who wish to participate in the extracurricular activities and athletics currently running must have a negative test result before moving out of adaptive pause. If a student did not test on Monday, then the student should plan to test tomorrow, Thursday, January 6. Students who do not test will remain on adaptive pause. Students who do not fulfill the testing requirement next week will become ineligible on Friday, January 14.

SHIELD Testing Location Changes for Thursday, January 6

To accommodate the large number of students who are required to test and have not yet done so, SHIELD testing centers will relocate to the following locations for Thursday, January 6.

Deerfield High School
Location: West Gym
Times: 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
No appointment required

Highland Park High School
Location: Library
Times: 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
No appointment required

All students and staff with a consent on file may use District 113 SHIELD testing without an appointment.

Athletics and Activity Update

Most athletic teams and activities may resume their normal schedule. Students who have tested negative for COVID-19 through D113 SHIELD testing or have provided a negative result from an outside test may begin participating. If a team or activity is considered to be in an outbreak based on meeting the outbreak criteria, the Athletic Director, Coach or Sponsor will contact the members of the team or activity directly with specific instructions.

District 113 will no longer send notification of an outbreak but instead will post a notice of outbreak on the COVID-19 dashboard page with information similar to what the Illinois Department of Public Health posts on its school outbreak webpage. The number of positive cases identified through District 113 SHIELD testing or by outside testing that are reported to us are tracked on the District 113 COVID-19 dashboard. The dashboard is updated daily.

Again, please practice proper mitigation measures by wearing masks appropriately, above your nose and below your chin, washing your hands often, and maintaining social distancing.

Kind regards,

Suzy Spychala, M.Ed., BSN, RN, PEL-CSN
