Statement from the D113 Board of Education about FOCUS on the Arts | Declaración de la Junta de Educación del Distrito 113 Sobre el Festival FOCUS on the Arts

Dear District 113 Community,

The Board of Education wants to provide this communication update on FOCUS on the Arts.

Since its inception in 1964 led by the incredible Ruth Esserman, FOCUS on the Arts has been a revered tradition at Highland Park High School. Led by visionaries, most recently, Jody Weinberg, dedicated to learning about and experiencing the arts by bringing artists to HPHS, the event has changed over time to reflect the world around it, the artists, the students, our community.

FOCUS on the Arts is running in spring of 2023.
The Board expects that Highland Park High School’s 2023 FOCUS respects the planning structure already in place to ensure it is robust and continues its 60+ year tradition.

The Board directed the Administration to extend FOCUS to DHS students and to be inclusive to all D113 students.

The District 113 expense budget line item that supports FOCUS is fully funded. The District’s funding, grants and fundraising by the FOCUS 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization make FOCUS on the Arts possible.

We look forward to welcoming our new director and attending FOCUS on the Arts in 2023 and for many years to come.

La Junta de Educación desea proveer este comunicado de actualización sobre el festival FOCUS on the Arts.

Desde su creación en 1964, dirigido por la increíble Ruth Esserman, FOCUS on the Arts (Enfoque en las Artes) ha sido una tradición venerada en la escuela Highland Park High School. Dirigido por visionarios, más recientemente, Jody Weinberg, el festival dedicado a aprender sobre las artes y disfrutarlas, trayendo a artistas a la escuela HPHS, ha cambiado con el tiempo para reflejar al mundo que le rodea, tanto a los artistas y los estudiantes, como a nuestra comunidad.

FOCUS on the Arts se llevará a cabo en la primavera de 2023.
