2-02-2022 Emergency Late Start Due to Severe Weather| 2-02-2022 Inicio tardío de emergencia debido a condiciones meteorológicas adversas

February 1, 2022

Dear District 113 Community,

Due to the expected heavy snowfall and its impact on roadways during the morning commute, tomorrow morning will be a late start with students beginning in-person learning on campus at 10 a.m. Dismissal will be at the regular time for your school. A decision about after school extracurricular activities and athletics will be made tomorrow. Assuming conditions improve in the morning, this late start option will allow us to preserve in-person learning safely tomorrow.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a sharp snowfall gradient over the Chicago metropolitan area causing large discrepancies in snow totals within short distances from one area to the next. Although the predicted snow accumulation in Lake County is lower than other areas, hazardous road conditions throughout the greater metropolitan area will make early commute time to school unpredictable and potentially dangerous for the 40 percent of staff who commute from areas south of Lake County.

We will continue to monitor updates to the forecast as well as monitor actual road conditions overnight and tomorrow morning. If conditions worsen, we will communicate with families and staff no later than 8 a.m. tomorrow.
