Statewide Terrorism & Intelligence Center Alert re Nationwide TikTok Threat | Alerta del Centro Estatal de Terrorismo e Inteligencia y la amenaza de TikTok en los EE. UU.

December 16, 2021

Dear District 113 Community,

Although tomorrow is not a student attendance day for District 113, I am writing to make you aware of the notice we received from the Statewide Terrorism & Intelligence Center (STIC) about a nationwide threat circulating on TikTok stating “school shootings and bomb threats for every school in the USA even elementary” on Friday, December 17, 2021. At this time, STIC says it currently has no specific information concerning any threats or attacks planned at Illinois schools.

District 113 has not received any additional information and has received no threat.

Although we do not have students tomorrow and we have received no threat, it is worth reaching out to parents and guardians to ask that if you see something concerning, please report it immediately to the school or to local law enforcement. Please take a moment and tell your students to report to you, the school, or law enforcement if they see something concerning on social media or hear something concerning at school. If it is an emergency, please call 911. You can report a concern directly to the Principal or report a non-urgent concern through our District 113 Tip Line on the District 113 app, on our website or by calling or texting (847) 262-3363. Information needs to have as many specific details as possible. If there were ever a threat or a serious safety concern, we need information and you may have the information we need.

I can assure you that concerns reported to us will be responded to immediately and we will take all appropriate steps to do everything we can to keep our schools safe. Nothing matters more than the safety of our students and staff, and we need your help and we need the help of our students to keep our schools safe.

Bruce Law, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
