Notice of COVID-19 outbreak; SHIELD testing over Winter Break | Asunto: Aviso de brote; pruebas de SHIELD durante las vacaciones

District 113 Community,

District 113 has been notified by the Lake County Health Department that it has determined that recently confirmed positive COVID-19 cases meet the standard of an outbreak within an athletic team at Deerfield High School. The Illinois Department of Public Health defines a school outbreak as either (1) multiple cases comprising at least 10 percent of students, teachers, or staff within a core group or (2) at least three cases within a specified core group. Those who are within the outbreak cohort will receive additional information specific to the cohort. Due to privacy laws, there is no additional information I can share regarding the outbreak. As always, we continue to work closely with LCHD. 

I want to stress the importance of following all of the mitigation measures. Please wear masks consistently and correctly, above your nose and below your chin, wash your hands frequently, and watch your distance. If you are ill please stay home and be tested for COVID-19 if you have COVID-19 symptoms. If you have concerns about your personal health please contact your healthcare provider. 

As discussed with the Board at the November 23 meeting, SHIELD testing will be available but not required during Winter Break. Testing will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, December 20, at Deerfield High School. Testing will not be offered on that day at Highland Park High School due to testing of the fire alarm system. The following week testing will not be offered at either school because the lab that processes the test results will be closed.

Mandatory SHIELD testing for unvaccinated students who wish to participate in extracurricular activities and athletics resumes Monday, January 3, 2022. The regular testing schedule also resumes on Monday, January 3, 2022 as indicated below. 

A reminder that SHIELD testing is open on a walk-in basis to students and staff with testing consent on file. We are encouraging all students and staff to utilize District 113 SHIELD.  The process is quick, testing is free and no appointment is necessary. 

Normal Testing Hours and Locations

* December 20th SHIELD testing, Deerfield High School, Location J 108, hours 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. 
- No testing at Highland Park High School during winter break. 
- No testing the week of December 27th.

El Distrito 113 ha sido notificado por el Departamento de Salud del Condado de Lake que ha determinado que los casos positivos de COVID-19 recientemente confirmados cumplen con el estándar de un brote dentro de un equipo deportivo en Deerfield High School. El Departamento de Salud Pública de Illinois define un brote escolar como (1) múltiples casos que comprenden al menos el 10 por ciento de los estudiantes, maestros o personal dentro de un grupo central o (2) al menos tres casos dentro de un grupo central específico. Aquellos que estén dentro de la cohorte del brote recibirán información adicional específica de la cohorte. Debido a las leyes de privacidad, no hay información adicional que pueda compartir con respecto al brote. Como siempre, estamos trabajando estrechamente con LCHD.

Quiero destacar la importancia de seguir todas las medidas de mitigación. Por favor, use máscaras de forma consistente y correcta, por encima de la nariz y por debajo de la barbilla, lávese las manos con frecuencia y cuide su distancia. Si está enfermo, quédese en casa y hágase la prueba de COVID-19 si tiene síntomas de covid-19. Si tiene alguna preocupación sobre su salud personal, comuníquese con su proveedor de salud.

Como se discutió con la Junta en la reunión del 23 de noviembre, las pruebas de SHIELD estarán disponibles pero no serán necesarias durante las vacaciones de invierno. Las pruebas se ofrecerán de 10 a.m. a 2 p.m. el lunes, 20 de diciembre, en Deerfield High School. Las pruebas no se ofrecerán ese día en Highland Park High School debido a la prueba del sistema de alarma contra incendios. La semana siguiente las pruebas no se ofrecerán en ninguna de las dos escuelas porque el laboratorio que procesa los resultados de las pruebas estará cerrado.

Las pruebas obligatorias de SHIELD para los estudiantes no vacunados que deseen participar en actividades extracurriculares y deportivas se reanudan el lunes, 3 de enero de 2022. El horario regular de pruebas también se reanuda el lunes, 3 de enero de 2022 como se indica a continuación.

Recordamos que las pruebas de SHIELD están abiertas sin cita previa para los estudiantes y el personal con el consentimiento de prueba en el archivo. Animamos a todos los estudiantes y al personal a utilizar SHIELD del Distrito 113. El proceso es rápido, la prueba es gratis y no es necesario hacer una cita.

 * Pruebas de SHIELD el 20 de diciembre, Deerfield High School, Lugar J 108, horario 10 a.m. a 2 p.m.
- No se realizan pruebas en Highland Park High School durante las vacaciones de invierno.
