Information about DHS student injured July 4; Sharing a message from Principal Finn

Dear DHS Families,

With permission, I am sharing the sad news that incoming DHS freshman student, Jamie Mazariegos, was a victim of the shooting in Highland Park. Fortunately, Jamie was treated and released from the hospital and is recovering at home. As a school community, we extend our thoughts, prayers, and support to Jamie and her family.

For all those impacted by this horrific tragedy, we keep you in our hearts. As you know, the hub of resources and support has been held at Highland Park High School. Please know that support will continue to be offered for our District 113 students. With that in mind, please see the message below from HPHS Principal Debby Finn describing such resources. I want to make sure our DHS Families know that DHS students will also be able to participate in the HPHS support services referenced below. More details to follow in the coming days.

Holding all of our D113 families in our hearts,

Kathryn Anderson, DHS Principal

Dear Highland Park High School Families,

By now you should have received the communication that Superintendent Law shared from the FBI and the City of Highland Park about the FBI’s Family Assistance Center at Highland Park High School ending operations at 5 p.m. tomorrow. That communication also contained information about picking up personal effects left behind as well as support resources. Please check the City of Highland Park’s website for official information at http://hpstrong.info

I want to make sure our families are aware that although the Family Assistance Center is ending and the City of Highland Park is working with community partners to determine what comes next for our community as it continues to heal, our Highland Park High School students will be able to receive support through HPHS. I will share more information about support services for HPHS students and how students can sign up for an appointment.

In addition, we know that talking about tragedy with younger children can be a difficult task.  In case you need it, here are some resources that may be helpful to you.

Holding all of our D113 families in our hearts,

Deborah Finn, HPHS Principal

Deborah Finn, Directora
