Sixteen Earn All-Confernence at CSL Championship

The CSL Conference Championship Meet was held at Maine East High School on Saturday, October 16.  Deerfield competed against all 12 schools in the CSL, though standings were reflected for just the 6 schools in the CSL North.  At the end of the day, it was a very successful meet as 16 girls finished in the top 14 of their race, thus earning All-Conference Honors.

The first girls race of the day was the 2-mile Open race.  This was very exciting as Evelise quickly moved to the front of the pack.  Running with confidence, she kept her stride and increased her pace as the race went on.  Utilizing those negative splits, Evelise went on to become Conference Champ for the open race.  Sydney was also able to pull of negative splits and took 3rd place.  Hannah, Kasey, and Erica - making her season debut - comprised the remainder of our top 5.

The Varsity Girls were next up for Deerfield.  Coming into the Championship with a 4-1 record, we held onto that place taking 2nd place in the meet and 2nd place in Conference.  Madeline blazed out of the gate and pushed the pace early.  This strategy kept her in the top half of the All-Conference finishers.  It also helped our other runners clue into where they needed to be in the race.  Bekah employed her more conservative approach, and successfully moved up after the first mile.  She caught Madeline helping both push through the challenging middle portion of the race.  In the chute, Bekah came in 6th and Madeline 7th.  Caroline Reich and Annie Fisher also earned All-Conference honors taking 10th and 11th.

The JV squad also took home 2nd place with 5 different girls securing All-Conference.  The team was led by Lauren Barber and her "fourth in the North" status.  She remained steady and composed throughout the race.  Jordan Hirsch had the race of her life, looking strong the entire way and placing 6th.  Other All-Conference Warriors included Catherine Zhu, Serena Worley, and Ali Carlin.

The last race of the day featured the highly touted frosh/soph team.  They lived up to the hype and delivered a signature performance indicating a bright future for Deerfield.  This team has already set new high levels of performance in Peoria and at Pat Savage and that trend continued at Conference.  A Vernon Hills runner took 1st place, but then a stream of runners in gray came to the chute:  Maya Garcia 2nd, Maria Retelewski 3rd, Randi Tye 4th, and Mira McManamna 5th.  One Maine East runner was next but a 7th place finish from Brooke Bernstein sealed the win for the Warriors - Conference Champs!  Penelope D'Angelo and Jessica Slutzky were also All-Conference.
