FISHER, FIRESTONE LEAD THE WAY FOR DEERFIELD AT LAKE PARK INVITE

On Saturday, September 10th, The Warriors headed to Roselle, IL to compete in the Lake Park Harvey Braus Invitational. The course comprises two or three laps of the athletic fields at the Lake Park high school campus, and ends with an exhilarating 300 meter long track finish. With the top-7 Varsity and Frosh-Soph squads competing in Peoria, there were plenty of opportunities for new faces to cross the finish line in scoring position.

In the Varsity race, Fisher Houston got out at a blistering 5:28 pace for the first mile and was followed a few seconds behind by John Healy and Andrew Firestone. The group did pay a bit for the fast early pace, but they showed impressive toughness, fighting all the way to the finish. Houston came in first at 17:24, and was followed by Firestone at 17:35. Healy came in at 18:10, setting a 4-second PR. Later in the pack, Ethan Schott, Nadav Basa, and Zach Bolon worked together as a pack to navigate the first half of the race, coming in through the mile at 5:47. Towards the end of the race, Schott nearly caught up with Healy, coming in as the Warrior’s 4th man at 18:14. Basa concluded the scoring 5 at 18:32, with Bolon following at 19:22. The Warriors, weakened from having to split up their squad, finished 15th of 21 teams - but ahead of conference rival Maine West.

Earlier on in the morning, the speed group competed in the JR/SR race. Aadi Desai, Ben Simon, and Jordan Ross worked together as a pack throughout the race, hitting the first mile at 6:54 and the second mile at 15:16, before breaking apart. Desai came in first at 22:12, and was followed shortly after by Ross at 22:30 and Simon at 22:50. All three runners set personal records.

Later in the morning, in much hotter conditions, the freshman and sophomores competed in a 2-mile race. Charlie Marks, who has been battling injuries, led the way for Deerfield and showed up today with a 30 second PR. He was followed by Noelan Tossing at 12:57 Hugo Albrecht-Buehler came in third, with a PR of a full minute. Jay Noren and Reed Galasinski rounded out the top five at 13:29 and 13:50, both setting PRs as well. Other personal records included Seth Frank, Cal Mazurk, Reid Gandy, and Jordan Blaustein.
