Mr. Blake Novotny

Blake Novotny has been a teacher in the district for the past 22 years. He grew up in Troy, Michigan, graduated from Penn State University, and got his masters' degree from DePaul University. Mr. Novotny is a working artist, traveler and lover of food, history, culture, and language. In the 2007-08 school year, Mr. Novotny received a sabbatical and lived, learned, made art, and traveled in South America with Buenos Aires, Argentina as his home base. In 2014 Mr. Novotny was awarded with the Highland Park Golden Apple for his teaching. Mr. Novotny is fluent in Spanish and teaches many of his courses bilingually as well. 

 

Coach Novotny has been heading the boys' soccer program at HPHS over the past 11 seasons and has been in the boys' program for 22 years as well as working with girls' soccer for 10 years. During that time, he guided the girls' program to their 1st 2 conference championships in school history (2003, 2004) and has guided the boys' program to multiple conference (2011, 2012, 2018, 2019) and regional (2010, 2014, 2015) championships. Coach Novotny has been honored as a regional coach of the year on multiple occasions for his work with the HPHS soccer programs.
