Mrs. Nikki Lazzaretto

This year marks Ms. Lazzaretto's ninth year at Deerfield High School. As a lifelong dancer, she is committed to helping students understand and master the technique of different styles of dance while understanding the mental wellness dancing can provide. Currently, she teaches Dance 1, Dance 2 /3 and Dance Company, which is a co-curricular course for Dance Company members. Students in these classes will explore several disclipines of dance including ballet, jazz, musical theatre, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, heels, cultural dance appreciation, and social dancing. Students have experienced master classes at Deerfield High School from West African dancers, who taught traditional dances from Guinea, and learned original choreography from Hamilton, Bring it On and A Chorus Line, from a current Broadway ensemble dancer. Before the pandemic, students had the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles and New York to take master dance classes from the top studios and teachers in the industry as a field trip experience through Lazzaretto's dance classes.

Nikki has been on staff at Dancenter North and Lincolnshire Academy of Dance and recently retired as the head coach of a nationally ranked dance team. In 2019, Ms. Lazzaretto was the choroeographer for Illinois High School Theatre Festival's In The Heights and is entering her seventh year as co-director and choreographer of Deerfield Dance Company. This year, she is thrilled to continue as part of the Deerfield High School Theatre family choreographing this year's musical, Fiddler on the Roof.
