Mrs. Alicia Akers
The Deerfield High School Choral Program offers a comprehensive curriculum that studies and performs all types of choral literature. Alicia Monastero Akers teaches Treble Ensemble/Advisory, Concert Choir/Advisory Chorale and Choraliers, as well as prepares the vocal music for the school musical. Students in the Choral Program have many opportunities to share their musical talent with audiences in and around the Chicagoland area, especially during the holiday season. While on tour, our students have sung on North American stages from Canada to Florida and California to New York City, with very special concerts at Carnegie Hall and Orchestra Hall. Whether singing in Agrigento’s Valley of Temples or on the Cliffs of Moher, the DHS choral students have proudly performed for international audiences in Toronto, Sicily, Italy, Ireland and Peru.
Mrs. Akers has been the Director of Choirs at Deerfield High School and a professional member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus since 1990. As a member of SAG/AFTRA, AGMA, and ACDA, she is an active performer, clinician and adjudicator in northern Illinois. Mrs. Akers holds degrees in Music Education and Voice Performance from Northwestern University.
