Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Practice, Not a Position
At District 113, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are not static nouns or one-time initiatives. Instead, they are adjectives—ways of describing how we want to think, plan, and act each day (Porosoff, 2023). Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a mindset or lens for ensuring that our practices actively reflect our core values:
Equity and Access
Future-Readiness
Growth and Achievement
Well-Being and Resilience
Communication, Collaboration, and Community
Whether working with students, staff, caregivers, or community members, we use this “grammar” to ask deeper questions and take more intentional steps toward inspiring a passion for learning and empowering students for the future within a supportive and dynamic learning community.
- Practice 1: Invite Meaningful Input and Participation
- Practice 2: Communicate with Cultural and Linguistic Responsiveness
- Practice 3: Strengthen Learning Partnerships with Students, Educators, and the Community
