Overview

The Social Studies departments at Deerfield and Highland Park High School empower students to become informed, responsible members of a democratic society and global community. Our engaging and rigorous course work seeks to prepare graduates for a pluralistic and information-rich world by strengthening students' knowledge and critical thinking skills in history and the social sciences, sharpening students' understanding of diverse perspectives, and fostering intellectual curiosity and respect for human dignity. Students are required to complete four semesters of Social Studies, including two semesters of United States History and one semester of civics. Many colleges recommend or require additional coursework in the discipline.
