Overview

The Deerfield and Highland Park High School Science Departments offer a comprehensive selection of laboratory-based courses across the core sequence of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, each with a standard and a more rigorous Honors track, all of which meet college preparation and graduation requirements. Students must complete two years of the core sequence to meet graduation requirements, and three or more years of science are highly recommended for college and career readiness. Beyond these core offerings, the department provides an extensive offering of Advanced Placement (AP) courses for students seeking college-level rigor, as well as several specialized semester and year-long science electives for students in upper grades. The Science program emphasizes hands-on laboratory work, the development of essential science skills (such as problem-solving, data analysis, and scientific communication), and the application of mathematical concepts, ensuring students are well-prepared for college science majors and a variety of science-related careers.
