Overview

District 113 Physical Education is committed to empowering every student with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead a healthy, active lifestyle. Rooted in respect for the dignity and worth of every individual, we strive to nurture each student’s unique abilities while fostering personal growth, resilience, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity, health, and wellness.

Eight semesters of Physical Education are required for graduation. Health can be substituted for one semester of Physical Education if taken during the school year. Dance may be taken in addition to Physical Education during a student’s freshman year as a Fine Arts credit only. During a student’s sophomore (DHS only), junior and senior years, Dance may be taken for a Physical Education credit. Students may take Health Education starting their sophomore year. For sophomore through senior year, there are a variety of elective courses offered contingent upon facility availability at each school. Every effort is made to place a student in the section of their choice. When scheduling problems occur, the student will be placed in open sections.

Students should pay particular attention to the activities listed in the following course descriptions. Students may register for any courses offered at their particular grade level and school. All students will participate in state mandated physical fitness testing and are assessed with heart rate monitors.
