Overview

In Township High School District 113 we firmly believe that multilingualism is an asset and actively work to honor students’ home languages and cultures while supporting their acquisition of the English language.  Students who are learning English in District 113 participate in an English Language Learner (ELL) program that focuses on improving their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. This program aims to help students achieve English proficiency and meet college and career readiness standards. Students are assessed and progress is tracked through various measures, such as the ACCESS test.

Program Overview

Objective: To increase English language proficiency for students whose primary language is not English.

Curriculum: The program uses a specially designed curriculum to prepare students for college and career readiness standards.

Instruction: The program is staffed by ESL teachers and uses a resource instructional delivery system. Native language support is provided when possible.

Assessment: Progress is measured annually with the ACCESS test, and the number of students participating and achieving proficiency is tracked.
