The DHS Jazz Band is an innovative group that focuses on improvisation and the group arrangement of classic jazz tunes. During first quarter, we meet 1-3 days a week during the early bird period, from 7:15-8:05. For the rest of the year, we meet on all non-late start days. We perform five times a year during our regular concert series.
In January 2018, the band performed at the Illinois Music Education Conference in Peoria in a clinic titled "The Jazz Combo: From Lead Sheet to Performance."
Our instrumentation is 2 flutes, 1 clarinet, 2 saxes, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, and rhythm.
In addition, we have Monday Afternoon Jazz, our intermediate jazz band, and the Jazz Lab Band, our beginning jazz group. Each ensemble meets one day a week after school for 50 minutes.
Our current repertoire list of music we are playing. Here are some helpful resources.
