2021 Deerfield High School Graduation Information Guide
Date and Time
Thursday, May 27
Deerfield High School
Adams Field (Stadium)
Ceremony starts promptly at 5:00 pm
Stadium will open at 4:00 pm
For family planning purposes, our graduation ceremonies have averaged 90 minutes over the years. We expect this to be roughly the same length.
We are excited to hold a live, in-person commencement ceremony that honors the entire Class of 2021. In order to accommodate this and follow the present Lake County Health Department protocols for such an event, we will utilize the entire Adams Field facility.
We expect to seat over 1500 people (graduates included) given the ticket allotment recently completed. All chairs will be properly distanced across the playfield and track areas, and our bleacher capacity will be monitored not to exceed 250 patrons. Please note that chairs may not be moved or “clumped” closer together.
Because this is a large venue event (despite being outdoors), proper masks must also be worn at all times. We greatly appreciate your cooperation.
Please follow our signage and direction regarding parking lot access and crowd flow patterns.
For those family members not able to attend, we will live-stream the event (link will be found on our school website closer to the occasion), and that recording will remain available for viewing throughout the summer months.
We will provide handicapped parking access closer to the stadium for those who have requested it. Know that we will also provide a proximal drop-off lane as well.
We will also provide handicapped seating areas for those who have requested. These locations will be located closest to the entrance/exit of the stadium to minimize travel distances for our guests. Again, we’ll have signs and people to help direct you.
You may receive your cap/gown at the Senior Celebration event on May 17. The caps and gowns are yours to keep and do not need to be returned. We’d like you to have them early so that you may unfold them from the packaging and have them available for photos ahead of the ceremony. We’ll have them available at the school for you to pick up if you don’t attend the Senior Celebration.
You will also receive your graduation tickets at the Senior Celebration on May 17 -- or any day afterwards at the front entrance of the school. Any extra tickets you requested (up to two for step-parents) through the ticket request process will automatically be included in what you receive.
When to show
You should arrive for the ceremony by 4:00 pm on Thursday, May 27. Depending on your homeroom, you will be directed to one of the gymnasiums to get in the proper lineup and receive some directions. We’ll send out some more information on this shortly. But, in the meantime, know that we are not holding a graduation rehearsal. Your part is rather simple, and we feel that we can give you some simple direction that afternoon just prior to the ceremony itself.
You will march into the stadium and be seated according to your homerooms. When it comes time to receive your diplomas, you will, one by one, proceed across the stage in alphabetical order within your homerooms. It’s easy, and we’ll have staff around to guide you.
Students who are named Deerfield Scholars may pick up their medals (to wear) at the Senior Celebration. They will be recognized during the ceremony. We will announce and medal the Valedictorians/Salutatorians at the ceremony, as well.
How to dress
Dress nicely under your gown as this is a fairly formal occasion. Please note that it is recommended that students wear flat shoes as they will be walking on the turf of the stadium. So as not to damage the turf, students may not wear heels, unless it is a chunky heel.
We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2021 and hope that this message helps clarify some questions about how we plan to hold this event and what it will look like.
Please contact Assistant Principals Ken Williams or Lilly Brandt with any questions.

DHS Graduation TicketsPosted by Ken Williams on 4/9/2021 12:30:00 PM
Deerfield High School's Class of 2021 will graduate on Thursday, May 27 at 5:00 pm on Adam's Field on the school's campus!
Please follow the linked Google Form for further information as well as an opportunity to request tickets for the event.
Because of a limited stadium capacity and adherence to spacing guidelines, every graduate will be automatically granted two tickets to use for their parents/guardians. The form allows the opportunity to obtain up to two more tickets in cases where step-parents/guardians are present.
More information regarding specific ceremony details/instructions and cap/gown distribution will be coming soon.
We are excited to be putting together a ceremony the celebrates the outstanding Class of 2021.
Senior Spring EventsPosted by Marilena Fiore on 4/5/2021Seniors, we are excited to be able to provide you with both traditional and NEW senior events! As you know, coming up on April 21st, we have the Senior Sunset - get excited for some surprise takeaways for each student! We are also busy planning graduation which will be held on May 27th - more details to come soon. Finally, prom will be held on June 5th. Our goal is to bring the senior class together for each of these events - to actually have some fun, as a whole group, in 2021! For prom especially, there is no need to worry about dates or coming with a group (although you can) - we just really want to see each of you! On behalf of the entire DHS staff, we are excited to celebrate you during these last few weeks!
Graduation and PromPosted by Marilena Fiore on 3/5/2021Dear DHS Seniors and Parents/Guardians,There are so many questions surrounding what the end of the year will look like but there are few things we can tell you now. The most important thing to know is we are going to do everything in our power to create meaningful experiences for our seniors. Of course, in creating these experiences, please know that we will continue to be bound by guidance and restrictions established by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), as well as the state, county, and local community. Currently, we are planning for scenarios in which we will be wearing masks, maintaining social distance, and keeping indoor gatherings to 50 or fewer individuals. With that being said, we want to share some of the details of two major events we typically host for our seniors.Graduation will take place on Thursday, May 27th (the specific time is TBD). Our goal is to host an in-person graduation, while also providing a live-streamed, remote option for students and family who are unable to attend. Unfortunately, Ravinia will not be available in time for our graduation. As such, our new graduation location will be at the Deerfield High School campus on Adams field. Additional logistical details such as the number of guests per graduate are still being determined based on the restrictions we face during this time.Prom will occur on a yet-to-be-determined date and location. Our goal is to maximize the number of students that we will be able to have together at one time. The event will most likely be outdoors and on campus. Look for more information to come as we get closer to spring and restrictions become more clear. In the meantime, a survey is going out to the senior class shortly.Seniors, we know that this has not been the senior year you wanted or hoped for throughout your high school experience. While graduation and prom may still not be completely “normal,” we are hopeful that we can still provide an experience that allows you to be with your class, in some way, so that you can celebrate together. We are going to do our best to make this possible.Sincerely,Principal Anderson
