The PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) is an elective test offered to any interested sophomore or junior. It is an assessment of students' verbal, mathematics and writing skills, and is considered practice for the SAT.
The test is also known as the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) because, although sophomore and junior students take the same exam, juniors who perform well on the PSAT may receive special recognition and/or be eligible for scholarship money for college through the National Merit Scholarship Program. This year, we will administer the PSAT/NMSQT at DHS on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 and at HPHS on Wednesday, October 30, 2019. This test is required for all juniors and will be paid for by District 113. Sophomores may elect to take the test for a $28 fee and a letter will be sent home in late August with details. The deadline for sophomores to register is September 5, 2019.
