Rehearsal for Graduates -- this rehearsal is mandatory.

    • Rehearsal for the 2016 graduates is from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 26, at Ravinia Park.
    • Caps and gowns will be distributed and are to be worn during the rehearsal.  You may keep the cap and gown!
    • Girls: a suggestion -- bring the shoes you plan to wear for Graduation and wear them for rehearsal as you practice using the stairs at Ravinia.
    • Seating assignments and tickets for the ceremony will be given to the graduates at rehearsal on May 26.

    ·       At rehearsal, each graduate will receive 5 tickets for guests (twins receive 5 tickets total and graduates do not need a ticket).

    ·       Admission to Graduation is by ticket only. All seats are unreserved; sorry, only Pavilion seating allowed (no lawn).

    ·       If you need fewer than five tickets, please e-mail HPHSGraduation2@dist113.org  or call (224)765-2500 to let us know so that we can make these extra tickets available in a lottery to families who need additional tickets.

    ·       Each family may enter a lottery for one extra ticket.  E-mail HPHSGraduation2@dist113.org or call (224) 765-2500.

Lotteries will be held on March 18 and April 29.  If your name is drawn, we will contact you to let you know that you will receive one extra ticket (along with your other five tickets) in the envelope distributed at rehearsal.

    ·         Parking is available to all in Ravinia’s West Parking Lot.

    ·         Contact Suzie Linares at slinares@dist113.org or by phone at (224)765-2210 if you or your guests need handicapped parking.  Please note that a letter on school letterhead is required for access to Ravinia’s backstage lot; an official handicap sticker is not enough.

    Photography and Videotaping

    ·         Please complete family photographs by 4:45 p.m. so that graduates can line up for the processional.

    ·         Standing in the aisles to take photographs or videotaping near the stage is not permitted during the ceremony.

Commencement Speaker Tryouts – April 21

    • A faculty committee chooses the speaker for Graduation on the basis of sincerity, delivery, and theme.
    • Speakers are also chosen to deliver speeches at Edgewood, Elm Place, and Northwood Junior High Schools. Traditionally, the speaker chosen is a graduate of that junior high.
    • All seniors are invited to try out!  Contact Robin Gapinski by March 24 at rgapinski@dist113.org to sign up for a tryout.  She will   e-mail you Graduation Speaker Tips which will be helpful as you prepare your speech.

    • Class Marshals lead the processional and read the graduates’ names as diplomas are awarded.
    • The HPHS staff and the Senior Class will nominate and elect Class Marshals in late April.
    • The boy and girl chosen for this honor should have the respect of their classmates as well as the poise to lead the class and handle the responsibility in this important ceremony.

Senior Honors & Celebrations – April 6 and May 23

    ·         The Chamber of Commerce Recognition Dinner (April 6) and Honors Night (May 23) are two celebrations to honor members of the senior class who have distinguished themselves during their four years at HPHS.  Each evening is celebrated with students and their families, staff, and community members.

    ·         The Chamber of Commerce Recognition Dinner nominees and their parents will receive a special invitation from the Chamber. The Chamber recognizes seniors who have been nominated by curricular departments and several HPHS service-oriented clubs.

    ·         Honors Night invitations are usually sent by May 1.  The evening is a celebration of department awards, community recognition and scholarships, memorial awards, and special scholastic accomplishments.  Recipients are determined through achievements, nominations and applications.  All parents are invited to celebrate the achievements of their own child or to applaud the success of their child's peers.  Please contact Lesa Friedrich in Student Activities (224-765-2370) or Alesia Margetis in Counseling (224-765-2045) with any questions regarding Honors Night.

    Notes from the Counseling Department

    • Seniors must inform each college of their enrollment plans by May 1, the National Candidate Reply Date.   Make sure you have submitted your deposit by the published due date to reserve your spot.  Remember that you can make a final deposit to only one college or university; multiple deposits can cost a student an offer of admission at one or all of the schools to which they send deposits.  See your Counselor ASAP if you need to attend summer school to meet graduation requirements.  Also, every senior needs to meet with his or her counselor on May 11 or 12 to share their final post-high school plans.

It is important for both students and teachers to close the year as it began, with a strong respect for each other and the total HPHS learning environment.  The time leading up to Graduation should be full of reflection and celebration. We count on your cooperation to make sure your final days as high school seniors and the commencement ceremony are wonderful for all.

Contact either of the Graduation Sponsors with any questions -- Anne Isaacson (224) 765-2211 or Robin Gapinski (224) 765-2224
