HPHS PTO MEETING MEETING CALLED TO ORDER:
9:18A.M. ATTTENDANCE: Jean Sogin, Jody Weinberg, Martha Biede,
Lesa Friedrich, Beth Gerber, Marjie Shapiro, Amy Kaufman, Terry Vismantas,
Andi Goldfine Zazove, Peggy Orloff, Sarah Liebman, Terri Olian, Janna Berk,
Charlene Morris, Elissa Halpern, Susan Berk, Jim Swanson STUDENT ACTIVITIES REPORT: Focus ended. Crash Simulation
was successful. This is supposed to take place every 3 years. Freshman had
two speakers: Robert Sweetwell spoke about Healthy Choices. Another topic
was "What’s the Truth and What Kids Really Believe". (Media Literacy.com) Testing for Juniors takes place on Thursday late start 11:14
and 12:01 on Wednesday) Fine Arts Studio Theatre performing Arabian Nights.
Activities Fair for incoming Freshman – April 30th. Class Board
Elections, AP Exams, Honors Night, Graduation, Voter Registration for
Seniors, Prom – all coming up. There is a course being taught at CLC called "Alive at 25".
It’s a 4hr. course re: Safe Driving. The district is considering making it a
requirement in order to get a parking permit at the school. This is all part
of a citywide effort to raise teen driving awareness of safety and good
choices. Some upcoming dates for the 2007-08 Calendar are: Aug. 29 – 1st day of school, Oct. 12 – Homecoming
Game, Oct. 13- Homecoming Dance, Oct. 18-20 Stunts, Nov. 21-23 Thanksgiving, Dec. 24-Jan. 7 –
Winter Break, Jan. 23-25- Final Exams, Feb. 23 Winter Formal, Feb. 1-29
Charity Drive, Mar. 21-31 Spring Break, May 28 – Graduation. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Evaluation process of Focus taking
place. Dance Night, Student Showcase were outstanding performance that week.
A Hispanic translation for the evaluation is being incorporated. The Crash
Simulation was a tremendous success with students reporting positive
feedback. The PTO sign is up and running and the community is enjoying the
information. VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Grad Night – need more
volunteers, please sign up for the beach party. Raffle prizes from
Starbucks, Container Store, moves to colleges. May 14th – Love’s Yogurt fundraiser for grad
night. Parent Directory – deadline for changes due by the next
newsletter. Nominating Committee – vote took place for the next
year’s slate – Approved. NEW BUSINESS: Pat Cannon announced the Marvin Marter
Scholarship for $500. It will be presented at Honor’s Night. OLD BUSINESS: Climbing Wall requested by the P.E. Dept.,
high ropes/low ropes course - $6000 already been funded, $6000. being
requested of PTO. Certified Instructors and Insurance Liability covered –
Motion Carried. SECRETARY’S REPORT: Minutes approved for March 19th
meeting. SPECIAL PRESENTATION: Tom Vogelsang and Chris Derfler
from the Tech. Dept. presented a demonstration of new technology that
enables parents at home to watch the school’s daily announcements from our
home computer. Incredible advancements! Cyrus Toubuli is student Emmy Award winner for his work on
creating video recaps of television series. We were able to see the tape
