BOOKS

The HPHS Library has a large book collection on both World War II and the Vietnam War.  Many contain oral histories, interviews, poetry and art and are an excellent source for high quality photographs.  While many books are available on carts, there are still more located on the shelves.  Use the Book/Media Catalog link to search or use these numbers to browse:

ONLINE DATABASES accessible from the Library Home Page

• American History - available temporarily with a username hphsgiants and password hphsgiants.  Contents include:  descriptions of events, statistics, images, video clips, essays, biographies, documents, court cases, movements and timelines.  Useful for topic browsing.

• World News Digest - Contains top news stories since 1940.  Two week archive of Reuter's News Feed.  Useful for both historical topics and current (Iraq War).

• Discovering Collection - Contains many reference articles on both World War II and the Vietnam War.

• History Reference Center - Contains many reference and magazine articles on both World War II and the Vietnam War.

• Electric Library - Scholarly and general-interest magazine, newspaper articles, excerpts from books, images, radio/tv transcripts.   Articles are from the 1990s to the present. (Iraq War)

• General Reference Center Gold - General interest magazine and newspaper articles from the 1990s to the present.

• SIRS - General interest magazine and newspaper articles from the 1990s to the present.

• WilsonSelect - Some general interest magazine articles but also contains scholarly journal articles from the 1990s to the present.

PRINT MAGAZINES

Helpful current magazine titles that the library subscribes to includes: American Heritage (historical articles), Foreign Affairs, Harpers, History Today, Nation, National Review, The New Republic, Newsweek, Time, UN Chronicle, U.S. News & World Report, and Vietnam.

Archived magazine titles include: American Heritage 1955 - present (some issues are missing), History Today 1967 - present, National Review 1971 - present, New Republic 1945 - present, Newsweek 1945 - present, Time 1938 - present, U.S. News & World Report 1955 - present. These titles are located on the west wall of the library and may be accessed by browsing or using Reader's Guide (print index) or Reader's Guide Retrospective (online index.)  American Heritage has a separate print index.
