Motivation in Physical Education

Process

After making sure that the students had the basic understanding of the safety, vocabulary and general principles of weight training, they were asked to make a presentation of the proper form for one particular lift.  The students were given an assignment sheet which explained what was expected of them for their project.  You can access the assignment sheet by clicking the above hyperlink.  The students needed to break their video presentation down into three parts.  They needed an introduction, a demonstration, and a summary.

The students were asked to explain the following items in the introduction part of their video.  Which lift are you teaching?  What muscle groups does this lift work?  Where are those muscles located?  How often can you work these muscles or do this lift?  What type of equipment do you need?  How can you use a spotter?  What safety concerns do you have for this lift?  After answering these questions for the viewer, they moved on to part two of the assignment, the demonstration.

The demonstration was that part of the project in which the students actually talked the viewer through the lift.  They teaching students would explain the lift that they were going to do, showed where the spotter would be and then actually performed the lift.  Each group needed to show at least two different angles so that the viewer would have a clear idea of what the lift looked like.  At this time, the students would also make sure that the viewer understood and critical aspects of the lift such as their form and the reasons for the emphasis on form.  After demonstrating the lift, the students would explain any other lifts that would could help the same muscle groups or any alternative methods for this lift.  After explaining the alternative lifts, the students would move on to the summary of their project.

For their summary, students were asked to review the most important information of their presentation.  They needed to reiterate the safety issues, explain why someone may want to do this lift, how a spotter can be used and any other important issues that need to be addressed.
