Return to Fine Arts Home

The purpose of the Fine Arts Department is to foster the student’s search for an identity as a creative individual. While the degree to which the student is successful in this search depends on the amount of energy generated from within, we can provide the facilities, technical information and environment of encouragement and inspiration. We hope to provide the best possible conceptual and technical educational foundations in the search and promote heightened awareness of sights, sounds, motions, and emotions.

Discovering the cultural heritage, participating in the act of creating, or simply enjoying with a new perception something of value, is open to all - regardless of experience or talent. Developing individual artistic needs and interests is specially emphasized in the art area and each course and teacher offers some flexibility within curriculum to accommodate individual interests as much as possible.

Additional programs in the department enrich students experiences in the arts. Some of these include special workshops, exhibits, Focus on the Arts, and field trips to the many galleries, museums, plays and concerts in the Chicago area.

Many visual arts courses require that students augment basic supplies with purchases of additional materials - costs should be minimal in these cases. In case of loss or damage of school tools or equipment, the student is responsible for repair or replacement costs.
