Career Planning

The vision of the career development program at Highland Park High School is to ensure that students have the capacity to be productive and fulfilled members of society.  This involves ensuring that students will be life-long learners capable of making successful, self-directed career decisions and that students will gain an understanding that job satisfaction is determined by a positive correlation between personal factors, such as attributes and values, and career related expectations.

The Career Development Program at HPHS is a developmental program that begins in Freshman Year and continues through graduation.  Age appropriate activities and experiences are designed to meet the individual needs of students at different developmental stages.  This begins with self-awareness in freshman year and continues through to transition to post high school options in Senior Year.

Goals

1.  Students will gain self-knowledge

2. Students will gain an understanding of the relationship between their abilities and needs to career and post high school options.

3.  Students will gain an understanding that the total high school experience has meaningful, real world applications.

4.  Students will gain an understanding of the the skills and knowledge required for success in specific careers.

5.  Students will develop the skills required to seek out and gain employment.

One of the main components of the HPHS Career Development Program is utilization of Internet based resources.  In addition to utilizing the school's web based guidance program, students are encouraged to access a number of other resources.  These include:
