Day of Graduation

HPHS Graduation takes place at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28,
at Ravinia Park.

Gates to the park open at 3:30 p.m.
The graduation ceremony usually takes about 90 minutes.
Return caps/gowns and pick up diplomas immediately after the ceremony.

Rehearsal for Graduates

Rehearsal for the 2008 graduates is from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, May 28, at Ravinia Park.
This rehearsal is mandatory.
Caps and gowns will be distributed and are to be worn during the rehearsal.
Girls:  a suggestion - bring the shoes you plan to wear for Graduation and wear them for rehearsal to give you practice using the stairs at Ravinia.  Your graduation gown is white, so it is advisable to dress in light colors.
Seating assignments and tickets for the ceremony will be given to the graduates at this time.

Tickets

Each graduate will receive six tickets for his/her guests (the graduate does not need a ticket).
Admission to Graduation is by ticket only. All seats are unreserved; sorry, only Pavilion seating allowed
(no lawn).
If you need fewer than six tickets, please e-mail hphsgraduation@dist113.org or call (224) 765-2210 to let us      know so that we can make these extra tickets available in a lottery to families who need additional tickets.
Each family may enter a lottery for one extra ticket.  E-mail hphsgraduation@dist113.org or call (224) 765-2210 by April 24th. If your name is drawn in this lottery on April 25th, your family will receive one extra ticket.

Parking

Parking is available to all in Ravinia’s West Parking Lot.
Contact Kathy Strelow at kstrelow@dist113.org  or by phone at (224) 765-2120 if you or your guests need handicapped parking.  (Please note that a letter on school letterhead is required for access to handicapped parking in Ravinia’s backstage lot. An official handicapped sticker is not enough.)

Photography and Videotaping

If you would like Chappell Studios to notify you as soon as photos are available for online viewing and ordering, you may preregister by going to the following web site:  http://www.gradimages.com/Register.cfm. You may also add contact information for up to 6 family members.

Please complete family photographs by 4:50 p.m. so that graduates can line up for the processional.
Standing in the aisles to take photographs or videotape near the stage is not permitted during the ceremony.
We have Chappell Studios photographers taking a picture as each senior receives his or her diploma.
Proofs are mailed to each graduate by
mid-June.
If you need to contact Chappell Studios, the number is 1-800-424-3686.
We also professionally videotape the ceremony, and this DVD or videotape is available for $30.  Order forms are online. Please turn in the order form and a check made out to HPHS to the Media Center.
Contact
Ben Rakher with questions about this DVD/videotape at brakher@dist113.org or (224) 765-2250.
Purchase of photographs, videotape, or DVD is optional.

Commencement Speaker Tryouts – May 15th

A faculty committee chooses the speaker for Graduation on the basis of sincerity, delivery, and theme.
Speakers are also chosen to deliver speeches at Edgewood, Elm Place, and Northwood Junior High Schools. Traditionally, the speaker chosen is a graduate of that junior high.
All seniors are invited to try out!  Contact Paul Lusson at
plusson@dist113.org  to sign up for a tryout.  He will
e-mail you The Guidelines for Speakers which will be helpful as you prepare your speech.
Tryouts are in A342 after school on Thursday, May 15th.

Senior Class Marshals

Class Marshals lead the processional and read the graduates’ names as diplomas are awarded.
The Senior Class will nominate and elect Class Marshals through school e-mail in late April.
The boy and girl chosen for this honor should have the respect of their classmates, as well as the poise to lead the class and handle the responsibility in this important ceremony.

CHECK THE LIST MAILED TO YOUR HOME TO VERIFY THAT YOUR NAME IS LISTED AS YOU WANT IT TO APPEAR ON YOUR DIPLOMA AND IN THE GRADUATION PROGRAM.
If there are any changes, e-mail Eleanor Pieracci at epieracci@dist113.org or call (224)765-2210. (During the ceremony when the marshals announce graduates’ names, they do NOT include any middle names; they will only use first and last names.)

We count on your cooperation to make sure your final days as high school seniors and the commencement ceremony are wonderful for all.
