SPECIAL
EDUCATION
Special
Education programs are available to students who have been identified by
the school as having a disabling condition that significantly interferes
with educational achievement. To be eligible for special education services
and classes, a student must have a complete Case Study Evaluation which
identifies a disability according to Federal, State and local regulations
and an Individual Education Plan which prescribes specific services and
programs. To initiate the process to determine if a student is eligible
for special education services, contact your guidance counselor and request
that your child’s learning be reviewed by our problem-solving team.
MANAGING
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE (MAP) - 9013
Students
who have an identified disability affecting school performance in managing
attention, organization, assignment completion, time management, conflict
resolution, quiz/test preparation, and attendance receive support in these
areas. Managing Academic Performance provides students with strategies that
will help them achieve their IEP goals and improve school functioning. Activities
may focus on problem-solving and communications skills, study and organizational
strategies, as well as supervised study time. In addition, Case Managers
provide crisis intervention and consultation with classroom teachers, students
and parents. Group and/or individual counseling is provided by the social
worker or psychologist on an as needed basis. A student is assigned to MAP
1–5 days per week as determined by the Individualized Education Plan.
Students earn one credit per semester when enrolled 2 or more days per week.
