Advisory
Teacher: Mr. Velleuer
In
Mr. Velleuer's 1st period orchestra advisory, everyone
is always busy. If we are not talking about school
or whatever, which we tend to do no matter what we
are doing, we are playing music. Currently, we are
preparing for our winter concert that will be shared
with the wind ensemble and jazz band at 7:30 on December
19th. The pieces that they are playing are two pieces
from Jewish culture. This provides a great opportunity
for the students to learn to improve their skill to
the level that such a style demands, but they are also
learning about the culture behind it, so as to further
understand the genre. We are very excited about the
concert and everyone is busy practicing, even Mr. Velleuer
tries to get in on the practicing (as you can see).
When
we are not playing we are participating in the normal
advisory activities such as the penny wars for the
holiday drive. We've raised a lot of money pitting
the violas, cellos, bass and piano against the violins
to see who can raise the most "points" by
having more pennies than the other team, the catch
being that silver and dollars count as negative points.
We
are having a lot of fun in class and we are about to
get into one of the best times, the secret holiday
friend activity which is like a secret Santa sort of
thing. But even more so, we are very excited to go
to San Francisco in February!
