THEATRE 1-2
Prerequisite: None. Open to all students.
Theatre 1-2 is a an introductory course designed to explore the many aspects of theatre including mime, non-verbal communication, presentational skills, dramatic analysis, theatre history, technical theatre, characterization and improvisation. Films and field trips are used to complement classroom activities. Theatre 1-2 requires no prior theatrical experience.
THEATRE 3-4
Prerequisite: Theatre 1-2
Theatre 3-4 is an acting class designed to help students utilizing internal resources for the creation of textured, well-rounded characters. This class enables students to build characters through the use of sense-memory, subtext and motivation analysis, and dramatic action. Students work with limited texts and eventually explore more complex dramatic works.
COMPANY
Prerequisite: Theatre 3-4 or departmental approval. Open to juniors and seniors.
In Company, students create original theatre pieces through improvisation, theatre exercises, scriptwriting, and a study of great works of drama. In class, students write, direct, and act. The Company performs the Spring Play. This class may be repeated.
MUSICAL THEATRE
Prerequisite: Theatre 3-4 or departmental approval. Open to juniors and seniors.
In Musical Theatre, students create original theatre pieces through improvisation, theatre exercises, scriptwriting, and a study of great works of musical theatre. In class, students write, direct, and perform. The Musical Theatre Company performs in Stunts and in the Spring Musical. This class may be repeated.
TECHNICAL THEATRE 1-2
Prerequisite: Open to all students/ no prerequisite. Full year course. Technical Theatre may be repeated. Tech Theatre introduces and explores aspects of technical theatre through participation in the Stage Productions at DHS. The class explores scenic drafting and construction, sound engineering, lighting techniques and lighting drafting. Supplementary lab work outside of classroom settings allows students to work with live sound mixing and live lightiing operations through DHS's computerized and analog systems. No prior experience is necessary.

THEATRE DESIGN STUDIO
TECH THEATRE 3-4

Full Year Course. Prerequisite: Technical Theatre or DHS Stage Crew experience with teacher approval. Design Studio is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. Theatre Design Studio may be repeated.This course focuses on the aesthetic values in scene, lighting, and sound design. The design process from script analysis to design presentation is explored. Production planning and problem-solving activities round out the class experience. The class works as a funtional Design Studio during second semester. Practical opportunities for design experience are structured into the curriculum. Students create partnered lighting designs during the Dance Company Show. Students create set designs for the Company Theatre and Musical Theatre Productions. As a design studio, the class provides set, sound and lighting design for the "Theatre D" community theatre group. Design Studio students develop a working relationship with the Technical Theatre Stage Productions Class. Design Studio also participates in numerous on and off campus activities including: Subscription to a Chicagoland theatre, Attendance at ITA Theatre Festival, Facility Tours of Chicagoland Theatres, Technology Demonstrations and Facility Tours of Chicagoland Theatre Supply Houses, Staffing In-School Assemblies and Special Events.

Senior Teaching, Advanced Study Arts & Independent Study
Students develop their own studies in play analysis, scenic design, lighting design or technologies, costume or sound design. Working with the instructor as a Teacher's Aide or a Senior Teacher are popular options.
