1-2 |
| Prerequisite:
None. Dance 1 is a prerequisite for Dance 2. One credit each semester.
Freshman and sophomore students may take Dance for Fine Arts credit.
May be taken in place of P.E. during junior or senior year. Students
may not opt out of dance on an athletic waiver. A co-educational
course in beginning dance movement. It is essentially a program
in aesthetic and expressive movement and rhythms, as well as dynamic
body development. The main focus of the course is to introduce students
to ballet, modern and jazz dance forms through studio experience,
movies and lectures. This course would be especially beneficial
to actors, musicians, gymnasts, and athletes, because it helps develop
coordinated movement. |

3-4 |
| Prerequisite:
Dance or permission of instructor through an audition. One credit
each semester. Students may not opt out of dance on an athletic
waiver.It is a continuation of Dance 1-2 at a more advanced level.
Dance 3-4involves composition and improvisation as well as work
in ballet, modern dance and jazz. Students completing Dance 3-4
may re-enroll in the course subsequent years in order to build upon
and refine acquired skills. |

Studies in Dance: |
| Prerequisite:
Dance 1-2, Dance 3-4 or instructor recommendation. Students may
not opt out of dance on an athletic waiver. Advanced Studies in
Dance is designed for the serious student who is interested in pursuing
dance from a performance oriented technical base while exploring
an academic approach to choreography. The course includes performance
skills, the production elements of lighting, costuming and program
planning, research and the relationship between dance and other
content areas. It is a year-long course that will culminate in a
student produced production. Students may re-enroll in this class
for subsequent years. |
