Study Strategies

2959

Prerequisite: None.
Open to: Grade 11 and 1st semester of grade 12.
Note: This course does not fulfill the three-year English graduation requirement.

Study Strategies is for students who want to improve their performance on standardized tests such as the PSAT, ACT, and SAT. The program includes small and large group instruction in reading comprehension, grammar, usage, and vocabulary development. In addition, brief reviews of the math and science reasoning sections occur.  This course directly prepares students for college admissions tests.  There is no homework for this class.  All practice tests will be completed during class time.  Students will also attend an orientation in the College and Career Resource Center on issues related to their post-high school plans.

During first semester, instruction is given in small and large group sessions focusing on the PSAT and ACT.  Individual instructors determine with the class the focus given to each of these tests. During second semester, attention turns to the SAT and more individualized instruction is provided depending on the needs of the students.

Students earn ½ credit per semester for 2-day enrollment. Classes will be scheduled opposite science lab periods. Grades are pass/fail only.
