Freshman Reading

Prerequisite: None. Open only to freshmen. This is a Level II course. This course is for freshmen who want to improve their overall reading comprehension, vocabulary and study skills. Students refine their language skills in an integrated way. The course emphasizes reading for main ideas and inferences. Throughout the year, students read diverse selections, thus expanding the range of subjects read and their reading fluency.

At times, students review reading assignments from other subject areas within the freshman curriculum in order to facilitate their understanding of these disciplines. Summarizing, independent reading, listening and presentation skills, cooperative groups, computer applications, textbook and narrative comprehension strategies, vocabulary activities and broadening the type and enjoyment of many kinds of books are all components of this class.
