Freshman English Survey

Prerequisite: None. Must be taken during the freshman year. Students with CTBS scores below the 20th percentile in Total Reading will be recommended forFreshman English Survey.

During the freshman year students study the basic structure of the short story, the novel, Shakespearean drama, and poetry. Emphasis is placed on developing interpretive analysis through the readings. A very strong composition program begins in freshman year, and students write narrative, descriptive, and expository compositions of varying lengths. Students also study the revision process, grammar, mechanics, word processing, and the beginnings of the research process.
