When
to take the tests:
- Juniors typically take
the ACT/SAT beginning in December/January of junior year.
- Juniors (sometimes
sophomores) should consider taking SAT: Subject Tests if enrolled in AP or
Honors courses that will not be continued in junior year.
- The SAT: Reasoning
Test and ACT are administered from 8:00 a.m. until noon.
- Students cannot take
SAT: Reasoning Test and SAT: Subject Tests on the same date.
- Students are responsible
for registering for these tests.
- It is best to register
online at www.act.org or www.collegeboard.com.
- Students applying
to colleges requiring the SAT: Subject Tests should consider taking these
tests in May or June of junior year in subjects not being continued in senior
year.
- Students should also
take the May or June SAT: Subject Tests if considering an Early Action/Early
Decision application.
- Students can request
the return of their ACT/SAT with answers for an extra fee.
- ACT/SAT allows “walk-ins”
on exam day depending on the availability of seats and materials.
- Many colleges will
take the highest math and highest verbal from all submitted SAT: Reasoning
Tests to give the student the highest composite possible.
- Some colleges will
mix & match English and math scores on ACT.
- In this respect repeat
tests can help students achieve a better composite on SAT: Reasoning Test
and sometimes on the ACT.
