Freshman Orientation
A Freshman Orientation Program for all incoming freshman students is scheduled prior to the first day of school. The purpose of the program is to welcome all new freshman students to Deerfield High School. The day will begin in the school auditorium, where the students will meet their advisory teachers and senior advisors. During the morning, the freshmen will be assigned their lockers, have their ID pictures taken and receive their school ID cards, go to the book sale with their senior advisors to purchase books, learn about our First Class program, and hear more about the freshman year experience from a panel of sophomore students. There will also be a refreshment break and some time for the freshmen to get to know each other in an informal, relaxed atmosphere.
Although parents are always welcome at the high school, this morning orientation program is designed for students only. For many of the students, this will be their first opportunity to come to the high school by themselves and we feel it is a valuable experience to help them feel more confident about starting high school. To purchase books, parents typically give their children a credit card or a blank check made out to Deerfield High School.
Students should be dropped off and picked up in the circle drive at the main entrance of the school. We hope that this orientation program will help the freshmen feel excited about becoming a part of the Deerfield High School family.
