PETITIONS FOR 113 SCHOOL BOARD FILED

Stuart Senescu, president of the District 113 Caucus filed candidacy petitions on January 29th for the four caucus endorsed candidates:  Helene Herbstman, Ken Fishbain, Marjie Rosen Sandlow and Michael Smith.

Board President, Herbstman, continues to bring to the board her experiences as an educator combined with an enthusiasm for District 113, and commitment to quality education for all students.  Helene looks forward to implementing new ideas to encourage even better communication between the board and the community.

Fishbain, also running for a second term, serves as the Board Vice-president.

As finance chairman, Ken has worked on several projects including bond refinancing, investment strategy, balanced budgets, and financial planning audits.

Sandlow, currently serving the unexpired term of a former board member who relocated, has proven to be a good team member and an asset to the Board. Marjie is active on the district diversity committee and the finance committee and is the District 113 representative to the NSSED school board.

Michael Smith is a long-time Deerfield resident with two children currently enrolled at Deerfield High.  He has expressed tremendous regard for the quality of education in our district and the dedication of our teachers, staff and administrators.  As the Chief Financial Officer of Cobra Electronics Corporation he will apply his financial expertise on behalf of our community.

“I am encouraged that over 40 community members took the time last fall to participate in the Caucus process; question and interview potential candidates, and then endorse the slate of Herbstman, Sandlow, Fishbain, and Smith in the upcoming election for the Board of Education,” Senescu commented.   “The history of grass roots community involvement goes back to the founding of our country and I think the long history of the District 113 Caucus has helped shape the Board of Education and in turn result in the District 113 High Schools being well known as providers of exemplary secondary education in the United States.”

Petitions were circulated following the Nov 15th caucus endorsement.
